Hillary Clinton on Criminal Justice

It’s Like Watching a Tennis Match

Currently Hillary is pro-reform – she doesn’t offer any specificity about it, but she SAYS the words:
“The United States has less than 5 percent of the world’s population, yet we have almost 25 percent of the world’s total prison population… It is because we have allowed our criminal justice system to get out of balance. And I personally hope that these tragedies give us the opportunity to come together as a nation to find our balance again.”
The problem is that she was a major supporter, as First Lady, in the passage of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 – better known as THE piece of legislation that got us where we are today in terms of incarceration rates.
The following article is a timeline of her many years pushing for reforms – first as a young Barry Goldwater supporter, and then as a tough on crime First Lady, and now as candidate for President.
Bottom-line: she was for reforms before she was against reforms before she was for reforms. Got it?

How do you feel about that?
